Crown molding is the perfect way to transform a room, giving height and elegance to an otherwise ordinary ceiling. Commercially made wide crown molding is expensive, hard to find, and the selection of available species is very limited. Freud’s Wide Crown Molding Bits make it possible for woodworkers to economically make their own 5-1/2” wide molding in their choice of wood species and profile.
These bits are the only router driven tooling capable of producing moldings this wide, plus their carfeully designed shape lets you mix and match profiles to produce up to 9 different combinations with just 6 bits. Buy the special paired sets and save! Carbide tipped. Italy
How It Works: Each bit produces half of the molding profile. Three bits are designed to cut the upper half and three more produce the lower half. Each bit features a sweeping curve that transitions perfectly into the corresponding curve of the adjoining profile. Just select the upper and lower profiles that match the desired design. Moldings should be cut on a router table with a minimum fence height of 6” and run in 3 or more passes. Appropriate featherboards, hold-downs, and push sticks should be used when milling stock.
As the final step, use Freud’s Molding Bevel Cutter (#R99421) to ensure the proper 38 deg. installation angle. This v-edged bit has matched 38 deg. and 52 deg. cutting edges so it can rout both the top and bottom edge bevels without changing bit height or fence position. Simply run the top edge of the molding with the stock face down, and the bottom edge of the stock face up. All bits carbide tipped. Italy
